The Turkmen language (Türkmençe / تۆرکمنچه [tʏɾkmɛntʃɛ]) is one of the East Oghuz Southwestern (Oghuz) Turkic languages. It is a living language with ISO 639 code [tuk] or [tk].
Turkmen is spoken by Turkmens. This language is distributed in Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Iran as well as some other countries. The total of speakers is about 6'700'000 (native) and about 7'000'000 (native and second).
Latin script (Turkmen alphabet) and Arabic script (Turkmen alphabet) are used for writing.
